The calculation

A margin is a share of the selling price.

quote = total cost ÷ (1 − target margin)

At a 35% target margin, $2,040 of cost needs a quote of $3,138.47. Marking cost up by 35% would produce only a 25.9% gross margin.

What counts as labor cost?

Use the internal cost of the time needed to deliver the work, not the rate shown to the client.

Should tax be included?

No. The calculator treats every cost and price as pre-tax. Add any required tax separately.

Is this a binding quote?

No. It is an internal planning estimate. Review scope, terms, taxes, and local requirements before sending a quote.
